Below are the triathlon events that will be taking place. The dates and times are in a graphic at the top of this page. below:
The cycling course will follow 4 laps of a 5 km loop starting at Stonehouse Road, travelling south along Boldmere Road through the high street, turning right onto Antrobus Road then turning right at the postbox onto Oakwood Road, turning left at Pashaj onto Jockey Road and will then continue along Jockey Road past the north (Melrose Avenue) side of the island at the junction with Melrose Avenue and College Road, continuing west along Jockey Road before turning right onto Darnick Road just before Homebase. The cyclists will follow the whole of Darnick Road and then turn right onto Monmouth Drive and continue east along Monmouth Drive before reaching the island at Stonehouse Road where they will either repeat their lap by turning right onto Stonehouse Road, or on the final lap they will turn left towards Boldmere Gate and the changeover area.
The ‘field of play’ (Triathlon route) will be locked down from 9 am on both 29th and 31st July until the end of the events on each day after 4:30 pm. There will be designated pedestrian crossing points along the route, but after 9 am there will be strictly no access to the ‘field of play’. See further below regarding no waiting restrictions.
For information about how road closures will affect you for the Birmingham 2022 Triathlon, visit the Birmingham 2022 Get Set page for Sutton Park. Several roads will be closed on event days and access to Boldmere Gate will be unavailable from Wednesday 27th July until the end of Sunday 31st July. The map below shows the diversion route that will be in place. As this is an already busy route, we would strongly advise against using vehicles along these routes on 29th and 31st July and to plan accordingly.
In addition to the ‘field of play’ roads (Triathlon route), the following roads will be closed to traffic from 6:00am on the day of event until the end of each event after about 4:30pm (although the temporary traffic regulation order is technically in place until 6pm). The roads will be open on Saturday 30th July. There will be ‘no stopping’ restrictions in place for the ‘field of play’ roads which will commence at 6pm on Thursday 28th July and 6pm on Saturday 30th July (although there will be leniency for people using local facilities during the evening) and the roads will return to normal after the events on Friday 29th July and Sunday 31st July. Any vehicles still parked on the field of play or causing an obstruction in the other no waiting restricted areas will be lifted and moved to a safe place. If your vehicle is lifted away, please call 01565 872 707 for details of where it has been moved to.
The purple zone below will be access to permit holders only on event days. Residents will be invited by post to apply for permits.
The orange zone below will be a no stopping area to alleviate traffic flow. See information about road closures above for details of when no stopping enforcement will take place.
The light blue coloured roads below will be for local access only, i.e. “Access to Frontages Only”. They will still be accessible to residents and no permits will be required. This has been done in an attempt to avoid hundreds of cars parking in the local area, but it doesn’t prevent you from having visitors.
The map below is also the latest from Get Set Birmingham 2022.
