The interactive map below shows the location of all the Commonwealth flags that form the Flying the Flag for Boldmere trail.

You can also download a printable map and there is a live map you can use on a mobile device too.

Point A represents the start of the trail at Powell’s Pool where the triathlon swimming for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games took place and here you will find a commemorative plaque.

Point B represents the end of the trail in the heart of Boldmere’s high street where you will find a flagpole that was installed as part of the Flying the Flag for Boldmere trail and to celebrate the Commonwealth Games triathlon taking place in Boldmere.

Each of the numbers represent the flag of a Commonwealth country, plus a flag for The Commonwealth itself and the four home nations: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.  The numbering is a suggested order for efficiency and exploring more areas of Boldmere, but you can complete the trail in any order.  You also don’t have to complete the trail in one day.  Take as many days, evening or weekends as you like to fit your own schedule.

Clicking on the flag markers will give you more detail about the location and a photograph of the location to help you find the flag.  You can also turn features on or off by clicking on the button at the top right hand of the map.  Features that can be turned on and off include pathways, suggested walking / cycling routes, points of interest and individual flags.  For example, you may want to deselect the flags that you have found so you can see clearly the flags you have left to find, or you may want to deselect the suggested walking / cycling routes so you can complete the trail in smaller clusters.

Find the flag on the trail, scan the QR code (from your smart phone) or enter the web address shown with the flag and read information about the country, location and contributions from the community. Name the country in the space provided in the tables on the printable map (or on a notepad or your smartphone) and make a note of the 4 digit code so you can revisit pages later.

When you have finished, you can check that you found all the flags by completing the flags quiz.

Instructions for using the interactive map:

• Scroll in and out to zoom in and out using fingers or a mouse wheel or the + and minus buttons
• Click on a flag to find out more about where it is located
• You can turn features on and off using the button in the top left hand corner of the map:
  • turn on or off pathways
  • turn on or off suggested routes
  • turn off or on points of interest
• When you visit the flag in person, you will be able to scan the QR code or visit the web page to find out which country it is
